“Águas do Algarve was a fundamental landmark in the Algarve region. Thanks to the courage of all, included mayors, who are fundamental to ensure that this system is put into operation and that it provides as good services as those it has been providing. If we remember, more than 20 years ago we were unable to almost drink water in the Algarve, it was brackish… ” so begins the interview that the diariOnline South Region newspaper made exclusively to the president of the board of directors of Águas do Algarve (AdA), a company that is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
Joaquim Peres talks about, among other things, the investment that already amounts to 600 million euros, the quality of the tap water that you drink in the Algarve, the important contribution to sanitation, which contributes to all beaches in the Algarve today with the Blue Flag.
On the lack of water in the Algarve, Joaquim Peres said that a water efficiency plan was drawn up, involving all stakeholders, in which “A set of solutions has emerged that have to be studied and the priorities for their execution must be weighed…”.
Currently with 170 employees, Águas do Algarve, thanks to the adaptability of its workers, in this time of pandemic, did not interrupt any type of service provided by the company, despite having recorded three positive cases of Covid-19.
The interviewee from diariOnline South Region still talked about desalination, which "together with other options, it can be a solution to fill the lack of water in the Algarve."
Joaquim Peres ended by wishing Happy Holidays to everyone and thanking the company workers for their dedication and commitment.
