In line with the theme of the European Year and the proposal of the European Commission, the 13th edition of GIRO, marked on October 12, brought together 860 volunteers from different parts of the country. during one day, they exchanged their usual daily work for interventions to preserve the cultural heritage.
In the largest corporate volunteering initiative, ten actions were taken to preserve cultural heritage in Portugal – in Santo Tirso, Penafiel (Quintandona), Sever do Vouga, Mata do Bussaco, Oeiras, Monsanto, Mouraria, Carrasqueira Palautic Quay, Loulé and Ribeira Funda na Madeira – which brought together 59 companies and 860 volunteers, committed to a cause, to dedicate themselves to cleaning and reclassifying spaces. It should be noted that the action scheduled for the Azores was canceled due to the weather and is rescheduled for next Friday, October 19th.
In the various interventions in areas as diverse as the requalification of spaces, cleaning and reforestation actions, environmental education, among others, Margarida Couto, president of GRACE representing Vieira de Almeida & Associados, affirms that "it is a pride to look at this initiative and see the enthusiasm and involvement of the hundreds of volunteers who, for a day, change their usual place of work to dedicate themselves to a cause and a common goal. " He concludes by stating that "once again, GIRO was a success".
The 13th edition of GIRO is the largest corporate volunteer action, which GRACE – Group of Reflection and Support for Corporate Citizenship – performs in corporate social responsibility, a challenge assumed by the associated companies in partnership with several other organizations, namely Social Economy.
