A decade of Spotify and more than 16 million years of reproductions: the songs and the most heard artists - Showbiz

In October 2008 Spotify was launched, which would become the largest streaming service in the world. In the last decade, the Swedish company has, in the words of those responsible, "worked to help compensate artists for their work" and to promote new songs and artists.

"We are currently the largest music streaming service in the world, but we remain focused on connecting fans to artists and helping them build careers, just as we have done since day one," Spotify said in a statement.

10 years of Spotify in songs

In the last decade, Spotify has also helped change the way music is consumed. And the numbers leave no room for doubt: in the last 10 years, song playback time in the streaming music service amounts to 16,858,080 years.

According to the data revealed, the music streaming service adds about 180 million "active listeners" per month, spread across 65 countries. In total, subscribers have access to more than 40 million songs from 2,000 different styles and more than 3 billion playlists created by users.

In a statement, Spotify also notes that it has paid more than 10 billion euros in author rights in the last decade.

The Kings and Queens of Spotify

To mark the 10 years, Spotify has unveiled the list of themes and artists most heard in the last 10 years. In 2008, the year the service was released, The Killers' "Human" led the rankings, while last year the podium belonged to Ed Sheeran with "Shape of You."
