The Portuguese Rugby Federation (FPR) yesterday defined the groups of the first phase of the Honor Division. The Rugby Section of Académica (SR / AAC) was placed in the D series and faces, in the first competitive moment of the Honor Division, the Porto Sports and University Center, CDUP, and the Arcos de Valdevez Rugby Club (CR Arcos Valdevez).
In the inaugural round, on the weekend of 26 and 27 September, the “blacks” travel to Porto to face CDUP. On Matchday 2, Académica takes a break and, in the third round (10 or 11 October), they make their debut at home, against CR Arcos de Valdevez. On the 4th day, there is a reception at the CDUP, with the academies taking a break in the next round. The duels of the first phase end with the trip to the stronghold of the CR Arcos de Valdevez (October 31 or November 1).
“The first classified in each of the four series gets the qualification. The four runners-up play a playoff to qualify two more teams. In the final stage, six formations are discussing the national title ”, clarified the Académica coach, João Luís Pinto.
“This new format of the event was an adaptation of the FPR because of the indications of the DGS. It is a shorter model, because of the displacements ”, said the coach who advances to the fifth season in the leadership of the“ blacks ”.
The goal is to get the Académica qualification for the six finalist teams. “We want to be in the top six, as has been happening in recent years. We continue to work to be in the discussion of titles ”, stressed the coach.
