Academic with demanding exam in Lisbon against Benfica

FPB / sportflash

The month of January, in the university environment, is usually marked by the exam period.
Using the parallelism with the academic environment, it can be said that the Basketball Section of the Academic has, this Saturday, from 15H00, in the 16th round of the Professional Basketball League, a complicated exam and of maximum demand before the Benfica.
After facing FC Porto at Dragão Arena, on the 15th (defeated by 101-65), Ivo Rego's men are now playing at Pavilhão Fidelidade, home of the reds.
Currently in 8th place, with 21 points added in 15 challenges, the students, who this year returned to the top echelon of Portuguese men's basketball, occupy the last position that gives access to the champion play-off.
Ahead of this Saturday afternoon, the Coimbra team will have Benfica, currently ranked 3rd (26 points). Carlos Lisboa's set is the record holder in the conquest of national championships, counting on National Championship of the 1st Division, Professional League and Portuguese Basketball League, there are already 27 titles of the eagles (the Academic has four in its history). As a curiosity, the first national male basketball champion was Sport Conimbricense, in the season of 1932-1993.
In the duel of the first round, played at Pavilhão Mário Mexia, Académica lost, 93-74, in a game in which it offered a good replica to the people of Lisbon in the first part (it lost by 43-40 at the interval), but was compromised by the unbalanced third quarter (partial of 29-14 in favor of Benfica).
The American students' base, Malcolm Richardson, had a “hot hand” in this duel, who ended the challenge with 25 points, two rebounds and two assists.
This Saturday there is a new opportunity for Académica to “try to stomp”, for the first time, to one of the candidates for the title. The meeting is broadcast by BenficaTV.

Demanding cycle
After playing in Lisbon, in the 16th round of the Professional League, Académica receives Esgueira, on January 30th.
February begins with the emotions of the Portuguese Cup. In the round of 16 of the test, students receive, on the 6th, V. Guimarães. On the 17th round, there will be a trip to Lisbon, at Pavilhão João Rocha (February 13), for a tough match against the undefeated leader of the League, Sporting. After the “lions”, the month of February ends with the reception to the two-time national champion, Oliveirense. The meeting against those commanded by the technician from Norberto Alves is scheduled for the 27th. It should be noted that the dates released by the Portuguese Basketball Federation may still undergo changes.
