Accioly and Clemente finish their career and integrate Santa Clara structure

Central defender Santa Clara Accioly will be joining the club's technical team as assistant coach next season, and striker Clemente will become part of the sporting structure in the professional football department.

The announcement was made today by the president of Santa Clara, Rui Cordeiro, in a press conference at the Estádio de São Miguel, where it was revealed that both players will 'hang their boots' at the end of this season.

He pointed to the two players as "people with great commitment to Santa Clara" who, "in all difficulties, have always been there."

Accioly summed up his experience in the Azorean club "with the word gratitude, for everything the club has done, continues to do and will do" for itself and hopes that in the future "can continue to build a beautiful story."

The Brazilian central defender plays for the 'incarnates' of Ponta Delgada since 2012 and now leaves the squad, at 38, with 242 games made by the club.

Already Clemente stressed that this is the "end of a cycle," after 18 years as a professional player and ensures that "the best thing that leads from football" is to know that gave the maximum.

"I made a very difficult road, but I managed to achieve what I promised my parents, which was to reach the I Liga," said the Azorean forward.

Paulo Clemente signed for Santa Clara in 2014 and with 180 games he became the club's best scorer with 50 goals scored by the Azorean emblem, a feat he says he has "a great pride".

On the future of João Henriques as coach of the team for next season, Rui Cordeiro said that the coach "has a contract for the year" and "contracts are to be fulfilled."

"He is married to us and we are well married," the leader continued.

Santa Clara will play on Saturday at the home of the season, against Feirense, a free entry for supporters and supporters of the club.

The match, to be counted for the 33rd and penultimate round of the First Football League, marks the last Azorean challenge at home in the current season, after this weekend has been mathematically ensured the maintenance of the club in the top tier of football Portuguese.

The Azoreans leave for the penultimate round of the season in eighth place, with 41 points, while Feirense is the last ranked with only 16 points.

The last game of Santa Clara in the 2018/2019 season, which marked the return of the Azoreans to the I Liga, is at Estádio da Luz, in front of Benfica.
