AHRESP defends “new support framework for companies” in case of confinement

40% of food and beverage companies consider moving towards insolvency - AHRESP

The Portuguese Hotel, Restaurant and Similar Association (AHRESP) considers that, in the event of another general confinement, “a new framework of support for companies and workers” will be necessary.

“To confirm a new confinement, support is essential”, highlights the association, in a statement, which recalls the statements by the Minister of Economy and Digital Transition, Pedro Siza Vieira, at the end of a meeting of the Permanent Commission for Social Coordination, at Friday, about the possibility of the catering establishments closing again, remaining in operation only in take-away and delivery.

"What we must consider as plausible is the framework that was in force during the month of April or the framework that was in effect during the first half of May," pointed out the government official.

In view of this situation, AHRESP asks for more support. "It is increasingly urgent to immediately make available the measures already announced by the government on December 10, as well as a new support framework for companies and their workers", stress the businessmen.

According to Siza Vieira, companies harmed by confinement will be able to use the simplified layoff, which at this time allows 100% salary by paying the employer “only 19% of that salary” and being exempt from the Single Social Rate (TSU), while the Apoiar program provides for non-refundable support “which will now be increased”.
