"Animal Welfare and Sterilization" is the motto of the awareness raising action that the City Hall of Albufeira will promote on October 24, at 5:30 pm, in the Lídia Jorge Municipal Library.
It is an initiative aimed at strengthening awareness-raising measures against abandonment and maltreatment of pet animals, in order to promote the welfare and control of the animal population, something that the municipality has been investing.
Sterilization consists of the surgical removal of organs with exclusively reproductive functions and does not cause any physical or psychological harm to the animals and generally makes them calmer.
In this sense, this action aims to alert and sensitize the population to the benefits and benefits of pet sterilization as a way to avoid diseases of the reproductive system, unplanned litters, and minimize undesirable behaviors, thus contributing to a decrease in abandonment, diseases and animal abuse.
During the session, the CED-Capture-Sterilize-Devolve Programs will be explored, an effective method involving the capture of cats from a colony, their sterilization, a small cut in the left ear for identification purposes, deworming and, finally, the return of the animals to their territory of origin, where they are fed by a caretaker.

The Animal Welfare Center of Albufeira, located next to Vale Pedras Elementary and Secondary School, is open to the public Monday and Friday, between 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM and Wednesday, from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM.
