Alcoutim takes physical activity to people's homes


Initiative presents weekly online program with daily classes at various times

The Intermunicipal Physical Activity Week «Em Casa», taking place between March 1st and 5th, will bring together seven municipalities, six in Alentejo and Alcoutim in the Algarve, in a joint activity for the entire population.

The municipalities of Almodôvar, Aljustrel, Castro Verde, Ferreira do Alentejo, Ourique and Santiago do Cacém are also involved.

The initiative presents the populations covered with a weekly online program, with daily classes that take place at three different times, namely between 10:00 am and 10:30 am, 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm and 7:30 pm and at 20:00.

"The goal is to take physical activity to people's homes in times of Covid-19 and confinement and, at the same time, contribute to the adoption of healthier lifestyle habits and the importance of physical exercise in health" , stresses the municipality of Alcoutenejo.

It is, says the executive, “a public service, provided by several city councils, which aim to reach the maximum number of people of various age groups, involving families, at a time of sharing and also helping to break the isolation”.

Due to the pandemic, of several closed sports infrastructures, where there is a need for a readjustment of habits, the promoters of this initiative, used to working for the benefit of their populations, understood that this was “the time to unite to create an initiative that crossed borders and territories, providing a new experience and also enriching networking and serving communities ”.
