Algarve counts on Tavira, Louletano and João Rodrigues to defend the title


The special edition of Volta a Portugal by bicycle starts this Sunday and will run until October 5, with the Algarve cyclist João Rodrigues defending the 2019 triumph and the presence of the teams Atum General / Tavira / Maria Nova Hotel and Aviludo / Louletano .

The race will have 15 teams, of which five are in the ProTeam category, the largest foreign contingent at this level since 2013, and a total of 105 cyclists from 15 countries.

According to the provisional entry list, Tavira's team presents itself with the following cyclists: Frederico Figueiredo (back 61), César Martingil (62), Aleksandr Grigorev (63), David Livramento (64), Valter Pereira (65), Alvaro Trueba (66) and Alejandro Marque (67).

The set of Loulé goes on the road with the following runners: Vicente Garcia de Mateos (back 71), David de la Fuente (72), Márcio Barbosa (73), Jesus del Pino (74), Nuno Meireles (75), João Matias (76) and Sergei Shilov (77).

João Rodrigues, cyclist from Faz Fato, in the municipality of Tavira, winner of the race last year, remains at W52 / FC Porto and will wear the number 1 jersey.

The Algarvian Amaro Antunes, from Vila Real de Santo António, also returned to the national squad and to the Porto team, after a foray into international cycling.

The race starts on Sunday, 27, with a 7-kilometer prologue in Fafe. Lisbon receives the 8th and final stage, a 17.7 km time trial, on October 5th.
