Algarve filmmaker Vera Casaca wins Avanca Pitch Sessions with fiction project

The international jury of Avanca Pitch Sessions 2020, an initiative of the Avanca Film Festival 2020, decided to award Algarve filmmaker Vera Casaca with the Feature Film Prize.

«Cement and Concrete» is the title of the new project that Vera Casaca, a native of Fuseta, Olhão, seeks to carry out. Graduated in Clinical Analysis from the University of Algarve, master's degree in Nuclear Medicine at Cranfield University and a PhD at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, she later embarked on studying cinema in New York at NYFA and at the School of Visual Arts.

He has already produced «Ao Telephone com Deus» (2017) and «Se Poirot Estivesse Aqui» (2019), short films that mark his “clear preference for black and eccentric comedies”, says the organization of the event.

Avanca Pitch Sessions aims to present the audiovisual industry with the best ideas for short and feature films in development, in an environment of collaboration and promotion of cinema and authors.

The authors of the nominated projects previously participated in a workshop on "pitch" for cinema and exclusive "mentoring" sessions with journalist and film critic Rui Pedro Tendinha and, during the Avanca 2020 Film Festival, presented their projects in sessions coordinated by André Leite Coelho and José Miguel Pinto.

The film festival and the Avanca Pitch Sessions, seeking to respond to the pandemic context, took place online.
