Algarve International Piano Festival opens in Portimão


Portuguese pianist Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro and Peruvian pianist Rosa Maria Barrantes will kick-start the Festival.

Although the cultural facilities are temporarily closed, the 5th edition of the International Piano Festival of the Algarve will not fail to take place and the opening concert will take place on Sunday, March 7th. Until May 29 there will be eight concerts recorded in the Grand Auditorium of TEMPO – Municipal Theater of Portimão that will be broadcast online free of charge.

Portuguese pianist Filipe Pinto-Ribeiro and Peruvian pianist Rosa Maria Barrantes will kick off the Festival (March 7) with “Around the world with four hands”, a recital where they will revisit Astor Piazzola, Samuel Barber, Francis Poulenc and Igor Stravinsky. At the end of the month, on the 27th, the TEMPO stage receives two international names: the Chinese pianist Xi Zhai and the Russian pianist Anna Stepanova for a concert with two pianos.

Three shows are scheduled for April: on the 16th, Adriano and Eduardo Jordão will have a four-handed recital; on the 23rd João Rosa performs on solo piano, and at the end of the month, on the 30th, they take the stage at TEMPO Mário Laginha & Friends.

On May 9th there will be a piano concert with four hands, with António Rosado and Melissa Fontoura, followed by Vasco Dantas in a solo concert, on the 21st. The Festival will end on the 29th of May with Raúl Costa accompanied by the Portuguese Symphonic Band .

The concerts are recorded without an audience, complying with all safety regulations, and the broadcasts always take place at 9:00 pm, with free access, on the facebook pages of the Theater and the municipality.
