Algarve cyclist Daniela Campos made her debut at the World Junior Track Championship today at the Oder Velodrome in Frankfurt, Germany, with 6th position in the women's scratch race.
The Portuguese runner, still junior of the first year, had a busy journey, which began in the early afternoon, with the qualifying race, which qualified for the final.
Scratch is a platoon race, which is ranked according to the order of passing in the finish line at the end of the race.
In the case of female juniors, the qualifying series were 5 kilometers and the final was 7.5 kilometers, 30 laps to the Oder velodrome.
In the decisive race, Daniela Campos always kept a close eye on the 24-woman squad. The group gave no room for the success of any escape and was compact that discussed the medals.
The sprint was disturbed by a fall, but the good placement of the 5 Quinas / Albufeira / CDASJ runner near the head of the race prevented her from being hit by the accident.
Daniela Campos closed the race in sixth place, near a podium made up by Australian winner Ella Sibley, Chilean Catallina Soto, 2nd, and British Ella Barnwell, 3rd.
The Algarve runner returns to action on Friday with the participation in the omnium contest, while on Saturday disputes the individual pursuit.
