Algarve runner Rafael Rita was 26th in the Men's Under-23 Olympic Cross-Country Championship (XCO) race on Sunday in Brno, Czech Republic.
The young BTT Loulé / Elevis, still in his first year in this category, started from position 55 and climbed places to finish the race in 26th place, 6.23 minutes from Romanian Vlad Dascalu, who triumphed in solitary.
“In the U23 race, a hole from João Rocha on the last lap prevented us from placing two runners in the top 30. The bad luck happened when João and Rafael Rita came to collaborate and reclaim seats. The result was in line with expectations, especially Rafael, who was one of the best under-23s in the first year, ”said national coach Pedro Vigário.
Rafael Rita will stay abroad for the next few days as part of Team Portugal, which will compete in the World Cup in Val di Sole, Italy, next weekend.
