The Algarve already has 33 teams registered to participate in the 1st edition of the Tourism Olympics, representing three schools in Olhão, Quarteira and Silves.
Students enrolled at Escola Básica Professora Paula Nogueira, from Olhão, from the D. Dinis School Group, from Quarteira (Loulé), and from the Silves Sul School Group, in an event that bets on an “innovative approach” to sensitize young people from 8 And 9th years of schooling on employability options in the field of tourism.
“Faro stands out as one of the four districts in Portugal with the most candidates registered to compete in the Tourism Olympics 2021, together with Porto, Santarém and Setúbal”, informed the organization.
Over 500 enrolled students across the country
In total at the national level, the Olympics now have more than 555 enrolled students, corresponding to more than 223 teams in competition, from 20 schools from north to south of Portugal, ready to compete in the first test on April 20, the Mobile Challenge , which will choose the teams present in the grand final, on May 5th.
This is a 100% digital event, played by teams made up of two or three members, who in the first phase only resort to their talent and a phone (smartphone) with an Internet connection, to try to qualify for the final.
The objective of this initiative is to promote the training offer and the teaching options offered in Portugal, in the tourism sector, with a focus on the ages between 13 and 14 years old, when students and educators ponder future options for secondary school, where the offer stands out specific to the Hotel / Tourism area of the Turismo de Portugal Schools.
In addition to the prizes reserved for participating and winning students, indicated on the Tourism Olympics website, there are also awards for schools of the teams in the Mobile Challenge and Final phases of the Tourism Olympics:
The school with the highest number of teams participating in the Mobile Challenge (20-minute test, on April 20) will receive a printer and a video projector as a prize.
For the schools of the participants in the final of the Tourism Olympics (six hours of play for 20 finalist teams), on the 5th of May, there will be trophies for the three best classifieds and a surprise prize for the school that achieves the best classification.
