The Tour of Italy, one of the three main events of the world-wide cycling, starts today and will have in the Algarve corridor Amaro Antunes, who represents the CCC Team, the only Portuguese representative.
In the Italian race, the 28-year-old cyclist from Vila Real de Santo António is expected to be one of the top players in the Polish team, despite an injury that left his participation in doubt in recent days.
"After being in doubt for the departure of the Giro d'Italia, here, together with the medical team and the directors of the team, we decided to risk my departure for this beautiful competition. Without being able to make the desired preparation, I will try my best to do everything that is requested of me, "said Amaro Antunes on his official Facebook page.
Amaro Antunes, who represents the CCC Team for the second consecutive year and in the last Round of the Algarve was 8th place, will debut in one of three major world rounds.
The Tour of Italy starts with an 8.2-kilometer counter in Bologna, the first of 21 stages with a final on 2 June.
