The Algarvian Amaro Antunes (W52 / FC Porto) resisted today the attacks of rivals in the 7th and penultimate stage of the special edition of Volta a Portugal and will leave tomorrow for the decisive time trial with the “yellow jersey” worn.
In Setúbal, after 161 km, the Portuguese António Carvalho (Efapel) triumphed, beating Luís Fernandes (Rádio Popular-Boavista) and Luís Gomes (Kelly Simoldes / UDO).
Amaro Antunes withstood the attacks of the pursuers on the ascent to the top of Arrábida, 13 kilometers from the goal, and held the lead, with 13 seconds of advantage for Frederico Figueiredo (Atum General / Tavira / Maria Nova Hotel), 2nd place, and 1.13 minutes for teammate Gustavo Veloso, 3rd.
The special edition of Volta a Portugal – Edition is decided tomorrow, Monday, with a 17.7 kilometer time trial in Lisbon. Amaro Antunes is the last to leave, at 17:00 hours.
