João Rodrigues, who plays for W52-FC Porto, won the 37th Tour of the Alentejo today after the 5th and final stage, won by Basque Enrique Sanz (Euskadi Basque Country-Murias) in Évora.
The team of the leader had to apply due to an escape of several men initiated at kilometer 16, that included David of La Fuente (Aviludo / Louletano), and that it had more than six minutes of advantage.
Thirteen kilometers from the finish, the peloton rolled on its way to Évora, with a sprint in the minds of most riders.
In the square of Giraldo, Enrique Sanz won for the third time in this edition of the Tour of the Alentejo. César Martingil (Sporting / Tavira) was 4th in the stage.
João Rodrigues, escorted by the W52 / FC Porto fleet, arrived in Évora in order to get involved in the sprint, the 7th to cut the goal, defending the best of the yellow jersey.
The Algarve concluded the competition with a 3-second lead over Luís Mendonça (Popular Radio-Boavista) and 4 against Raúl Alarcón (W52-FC Porto).
"Today it seems like I've been in a bubble, always protected from the wind by my teammates. It is to them that I dedicate this victory ", affirmed João Rodrigues.
As for the representatives of the Algarve teams, Alejandro Marque (Sporting / Tavira) was 7th place, 26 seconds behind the winner, and Vicente de Mateos 10th, 58 seconds.
