In August, a new protocol was signed between the Aljezur City Council, its Mayor, José Gonçalves and the Aljezur Voluntary Firefighters Humanitarian Association – Philharmonic Band and School of Musical Formation, by its Mayor, João Cabral. The Municipality «thus recognizes the work developed, in the cultural field and more specifically in the musical formation, with its music school and with the Philharmonic Band, one of the ambassadors of the Municipality of Aljezur.
The Aljezur Voluntary Firefighters Humanitarian Association in 1988 created its Philharmonic Band, which it associated with the School of Music. Since then it has been a socio-educational and cultural project of interest to the Aljezur municipality, which has been involving musicians from various age groups, where at the moment the band has about 40 musicians, as well as the music school that moves about 30 students.
The Philharmonic Band has embarked on a renewal process, considering that it is “in the best interest of the conductor to be available full time for this function, with a view to better management and functioning of the band, in particular to perform rehearsals with his young musicians. less late hours and do not conflict with their school commitments ”, explains the institution. Both agree on the need to revise and update the existing cooperation agreement between the parties, being of elementary justice and in order to ensure the presence of Maestro Ricardo Pires in front of the music school and as conductor of the Philharmonic Band, where, According to the municipality, "a work of excellence has been developed, both in teaching and music training where the band has been growing, and in terms of the quantity of elements and in terms of its musical quality."
