Algarve cyclist Amaro Antunes (W52 / FC Porto) maintained today the "yellow jersey" in the special edition of Volta a Portugal, whose 5th stage was won by Briton Daniel McLay (Arkéa / Samsic).
The race leader was ranked 9th on arrival in Águeda, after 176.3 kilometers from Oliveira do Hospital, controlling the main opponents in approaching the goal.
“Today was a day of great caution. Our fast men did a superb job of protecting me, because the wind was terrible. From now on, we have to go day by day, trying to escape from bad luck. The opponents will want to attack us. We, cohesive and confident, will play our cards when it has to, ”promises Amaro Antunes.
The Vila Real de Santo António runner continues 13 seconds ahead of Frederico Figueiredo (General Tuna / Tavira / Maria Nova Hotel), 2nd place, and 1.13 minutes over teammate Gustavo Veloso, 3rd
The 6th leg of the Volta a Portugal takes place on Saturday, with a 155 km route between Caldas da Rainha and Torres Vedras.
