Armacenenses announced yesterday the withdrawal of the Portuguese Football Championship, a few hours after the draw of the competition, held in Cidade de Futebol, which even destined a confrontation with Olhanense in the opening round.
On Friday afternoon, the 2020/21 edition of the third tier of national football became known, this year with a change of format, changing to eight series of 12 teams.
The F Series would thus count, in its initial format, with five Algarve teams – Olhanense, Louletano, Esp. Lagos, Armacenenses and Moncarapachense -, also highlighting the presence of Vit. Setúbal, demoted directly from the I Liga by administrative decision regarding non-compliance with financial assumptions.
On the 1st round, scheduled for September 20, the draw destined to the following matches: Pinhalnovense-Lus. Évora, Olhanense-Armacenenses, Esp. Lagos-Amora, Moncarapachense-Louletano, Juv. Évora-Aljustrelense and Moura-Vit. Setúbal.
Hours later, the members of all the governing bodies of Armacenenses met and unanimously approved that the emblem will not participate in the next edition of the Championship of Portugal.
“Due to the pandemic that is plaguing the world, with all the serious social and economic repercussions resulting from it, and the unpredictability of its duration and future consequences, we understand that there are no conditions for the participation of our senior team in that very demanding competition”, he says. the direction of the Armação de Pêra club, in the municipality of Silves.
Those responsible admit that the decision – the probable outcome had already been communicated to the partners in July – "was difficult to make", but it was also "very thoughtful and analyzed" by the governing bodies, because "above all are the best interests of this club ”, which the officers want to“ keep stable and abiding ”.
"We expect the understanding of all members and supporters of the club", concludes the direction of Armacenenses, in a statement.
Remember, the start of the championship promoted by the FPF may also be affected by the Covid-19 outbreak in Louletano, which already has 49 infected among players, staff and family.
The competition is scheduled to start on September 20th, ending on April 3rd. The second phase, with the discussion of the accession to the II League and qualification for the future III League, begins on April 18 and continues until May 22. The final of the race is scheduled for May 30th.
