On August 6, the eve of the official opening of the 25th Sardine Festival, will be held in the riverside area of Portimão a recreation of the sardine discharge, which is scheduled for 10:30 am at the Gil Eanes Pier, located in front of the Viscount Bívar Garden .
At the time, the arrival of the trawler “Arrifana”, loaded with sardines, will be denounced by the sound of the siren located in the old Portimão Lota, triggering a set of activities linked to the work of seamen, common a few decades ago, the separation of the “Fish of the campaign”, intended for fishermen who caught it, until “sale by mouth” to buyers, who will previously assess the quality of the fish, especially the unloading of sardine-filled canastras, which will “fly” from the vessel to the landing pier.
This recreation, which precedes the Sardine Festival, taking place from 7 to 11 August, will also be marked by the costumes, sayings and means of transportation of the past, and will culminate with a mega sardine popular in the Festival grounds, including this whole program of a special broadcast of RTP1, transmitted live from Portimão to
The television program, entirely dedicated to Portimão, will be broadcast from 10h00 to 13h00 and from 14h00 to 17h30, featuring musical animation and various interventions by clubs and entities. Special emphasis will be given to sardines, the main guest of this broadcast directed to the four corners of the world, also bringing to the antenna traditional artisans and local storytellers, new experiences and business deals, as well as leisure proposals for this summer.
