Automobile production in Portugal grew 37% in March - Jornal diariOnline Região Sul


In March 2019 31,693 vehicles were produced in Portugal, representing a growth of 37 percent over the same month of 2018, according to data compiled by ACAP – Automobile Association of Portugal.

In the first quarter of the year, domestic automobile production increased by 30.6 percent compared to the same period of 2018, so that in accumulated terms, in the first three months of 2019, 94,471 vehicles were produced, representing a increase of 30.6 per cent over the homologous period of 2018.

The statistical information for the year 2019 confirms the importance that exports represent for the automotive sector since 97.4 per cent of vehicles manufactured in Portugal are destined for the foreign market, which contributes significantly to the Portuguese trade balance .

Europe continues to be the leading market for exports of domestically produced vehicles (93.9 per cent), with Germany (22.2 per cent), Italy (15.8 per cent), France (14.2 per cent) and Spain (10.8%) at the top of the ranking.
