Cyclist João Matias, from Aviludo / Louletano, will join the Portuguese quartet at the World Track Championship, which will take place in Berlin, Germany, between today and Sunday, February 26 to March 1.
This is the last scoring race for the Olympic qualification and the Portuguese will fight for the male presence in Tokyo, as the women's qualification is assured in omnium.
On Saturday, João Matias disputes the omnium contest, between 11:15 am and 7:00 pm.
Omnium is one of the disciplines in which qualifying for the Olympic Games depends on Portuguese performance in Berlin.
Portugal has to climb two places in the "ranking" to reach Tokyo, which means doing better than the 15th place, as long as Kazakhstan and Canada do not score.
The national coach, Gabriel Mendes, also summoned Maria Martins (Drops), Iuri Leitão (Supermercados Froiz) and Ivo Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates).
