The district commission of the Left Bloc (BE) / Algarve considered today that the party has consolidated as "the third political force in the Algarve" after the results of the last European elections.
"The Left bloc welcomes the good results obtained, confirming itself as the third political force in the Algarve, following the PS and the PSD," the political force said in a statement.
In the Algarve region, BE now obtained 12.9% (13,254 votes), while in 2014 it had 6,9% (7,340 votes), an increase of 6% which made it the second best bloquista result at the district level, exceeded , by a small margin, by Coimbra.
"The good results achieved by the Block in the Algarve are further enhanced by the fact that we have managed to be the second regional political force, in front of the PSD, in counties such as Portimão (14.94%), Lagos (14.77%) and Olhão (14.75%) ", notes the BE / Algarve.
"The Left Block is on the right track in the Algarve and throughout the country and what matters is to continue working, more and better, for the well-being and better quality of life for the populations of the region. (…) What we can promise is more and better work on behalf of the Algarve and its people who live and work in the region, "said the bloc.
BE also welcomed the PS as the most voted force in the region, but stressed that "excessive euphoria is not good counselors," because its vote corresponds "to about 9% of all registered voters."
The blocs, who also welcomed the growth of the PAN in the Algarve – it was the fifth most voted force, ahead of CDS-PP -, also consider that the level of abstention reached in the Algarve (73.08%) is "very worrisome".
"This record level of abstention in the Algarve and at national level can be justified by European policies that are contrary to the interests of citizens, by imposing austerity measures and repressive measures and by the parasitism and corruption that are rampant in the EU institutions," concludes the BE / Algarve.
