Quarteira Futsal Clube and Sambrasense ascend to the 1st District Division. There will be no champions or descents
The Algarve Football Association (AFA) decided to end the senior futsal season, indicating the Casa do Benfica de Quarteira (male) and GDC Machados (female) for the national levels.
According to the association, there was an “expressed desire” to resume the tests – interrupted in January -, but the government's Thursday decisions – with the retreat of the deflation in Portimão and the brake in Albufeira, preventing the respective clubs from get back to training – they ended up canceling the initial idea.
“After careful analysis of all this factuality, and going in the opposite direction to all the work that we developed to make the resumption of the events a reality, we decided to end the senior futsal events in the current sports season, since the impediment of participation in the tests by several teams on the initially scheduled date, it makes it impossible, in terms of available calendar dates, to continue the race ”, explains the AFA.
As such, “there will be no champions in the current sports season” and, following the rules, they will be appointed as Algarve representatives for national competitions, Casa do Benfica de Quarteira and GDC Machados, in the male and female sectors.
Decision is based on the results of the previous season
In the case of the Quarteira team, the decision is based on the league table for the 2019/2020 season, since the results of the current edition of the 1st District Division have been disregarded.
“This decision is embodied in the decision made by the board of the Algarve Football Association, of April 15, 2021, which alters the rules of the competition, within the scope of the contingencies caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, in the sense of disregarding the results of the current ranking table, since there are several participants in the race who have zero games played, which does not allow any sorting that leads to a fair and equitable decision, ”explains the AFA.
The AFA also points out that there will be no divisions in the current sports season and that Quarteira Futsal Clube and Sambrasense will, in turn, ascend to the 1st District Division, which they intend to see normalized in 12 clubs.
“The 2021/2022 season will result in the number of divisions needed for the next season to start with just 12 clubs”, emphasizes the association led by Reinaldo Teixeira.
“This is a very thoughtful decision and one that was difficult to take, given that we always strive for the resumption of the tests, which, moreover, we gave due consideration to in the meetings we had with the clubs, but we consider that considering all the circumstances, it is the only fair decision to be taken, ”concludes the AFA, praising the role of the clubs, which had expressed themselves in favor of resuming the tests.
