The Municipality of Castro Marim will advance with the tender of the bike path that will link the village of Castro Marim with Praia Verde, a project estimated at about 850 thousand euros, plus VAT.
Located on EN 125-6, the access road to the parish of Altura and the IC27, this bike path should have a length of about five kilometers and its creation is part of a road enhancement project, namely the widening and repaving and the drainage improvement.
This work is being applied for a community framework to support sustainable mobility, PAMUS do Algarve (Sustainable Urban Mobility Action Plan) and has already been integrated into its mapping.
Filomena Sintra, councilor with the Municipal Works department, said in a statement that the work inherent in the enhancement of EN 125-6 is not included in this funding, as it does not fit into its action plan.
The mayor also recalled that this Community support framework will end in 2020/2021 and that every effort must be made to overcome the delay “due to the management difficulties we had previously”.
Remember, the bike path linking Castro Marim to Vila Real de Santo António, located on EN122, is a work co-funded by PO CRESC Algarve 2020, PADRE project, supported by Portugal and the European Union and co-financed by 70% by Stink.
The creation of new cycling infrastructures aims to be linked to the sports and cultural policies and development of the municipality of Castro Marim, with a view to enhancing the natural heritage, but also the cultural and built.
Projects will also begin to link the village of Castro Marim to the Sapal Nature Reserve, Monte Francisco and Junqueira.
“Much of our tourism is senior, a type of public that appreciates nature, likes to ride a bike and get out of the sun and beach tourist concept, so we have to broaden our offer by taking advantage of other resources in the county,” he says.
