Bridge made with oranges opens the 5th Mostra in Silves

A replica of Ponte Velha created with about two tons of citrus fruit, mostly orange, will be installed in Silves at the roundabout next to the municipal swimming pool complex. The presentation to the public will take place on April 15, at 7 pm within the scope of the 5th edition of the Mostra Silves Capital da Laranja, this year held in a completely online format.

The artistic installation, alluding to one of the city's landmark monuments (whose written sources date from the 15th century), will be about 14 meters long and its construction in iron and metal mesh is by the Algarve artist Tó Quintas, known for his great works.

This work of art, with installation and assembly scheduled for April 12, will remain on display for about six days, with the completion of the bridge, with about two tons of oranges, taking three days to complete. by the assembly team, made up of four people.

The oranges for the creation of this installation will be supplied by Silves producers, and then, at the end of the exhibition, they will be sent to an orange juice factory in the region, where they will be transformed into juice that will be distributed free of charge by institutions in the city of Silves.

Given the current health crisis, this year's edition of the 5th Mostra de Silves Capital da Laranja will take place in digital format with a program of activities, including the Orange XXI Conference, outreach sessions with Silves orange producers, showcooking and confection of cocktails, notes of dance, music and magic, and the special edition of the TVI television program Somos Portugal, live, during the 18th of April, totally dedicated to the municipality of Silves and the Mostra da Laranja.
