Câmara do Porto creates working group to evaluate and take measures on cranes - O Jornal Económico

The City Council of Porto decided on Tuesday to create a working group to evaluate "the technical and legal dimension" of the crane installation to avoid falls such as Saturday in Fontainhas, the second in two months.

At the public council meeting, the PS presented a recommendation to set up a working group and the president of the municipality, Rui Moreira, read a communiqué with the same proposal with the ultimate goal of "proposing measures" to ensure the safety of structures and citizens, which was supported by the CDU and the PSD.

Moreira explained that the decision to suspend the licenses to install cranes and "intensify" inspection of infrastructure – "around 100" in the city "- following the case of the Fontainhas does not mean" that the Chamber has not been acting "in the problem, having even determined the "coercive disassembly of several".

On Saturday, after the fall of a crane in the Fontainhas area caused three evacuees and property damages in nine houses, the mayor decided to suspend the licenses for the installation of cranes in the public space and to inspect all existing in the city, even those that are in private space.
