Camping and caravan site planned for Biogal with an investment of 3.5 million euros

A 4-star camping and caravan site will be created in the Biogal area, parish of Montenegro, in Faro, in a private investment estimated at 3.5 million euros and scheduled to open in 2022.

The Biogal Camping and Caravanning Park – located on a 170,760 square meter property located in Alto do Calhau and inserted in the Ria Formosa natural park, near Gambelas -, will have a capacity of 1,030 users, consisting of 48 plots for traditional camping, 55 pitches for camping with tents, 144 blocks for complementary accommodation and 76 for caravanners.

The company Apartmar, promoter of the enterprise, wants to “develop investments in the area of nature tourism in an area with strong potential for this activity”, aiming at “increasing the quality tourism offer in the region” and contributing to “the sustainable development of nature tourism recreational and leisure ”.

In an area devoted to camping and caravanning, “the natural and cultural heritage” should be used in a sustainable way, combining outdoor and playful activities, the promoter anticipates, stressing that the project will be “differentiating in the region”.

Implementation plan for the camping and caravanning project

In addition to infrastructures such as a restaurant, changing rooms, social spaces, swimming pool, playground and children's spaces, areas related to nature are also planned, such as an environmental recovery trail, an environmental interpretation trail and an educational farm.

The Faro Municipal Assembly approved, at the meeting on 9 December 2019, the proposal for the declaration of municipal public interest in the project, which provides for an investment of 3,575,000 euros.

For the exploration phase, about 22 direct jobs are expected to be generated by the project, which will be operational 24 hours a day.

The environmental impact study, which considers the Biogal Camping and Caravan Park “environmentally viable” and an “added value” for the municipality, is in public consultation until September 16, on the CCDR / Algarve website or on the Participa Portal .
