Car market in Portugal fell by 16.9% in July


In July 2020, according to ACAP – Associação Automóvel de Portugal, 18,101 motor vehicles were registered by the legal representatives of the brand operating in Portugal, ie 16.9 percent less than in the same month of the previous year. .

In the accumulated period from January to July 2020, 96,102 new vehicles were put into circulation, which represented a year-on-year decrease of 44.3 percent.

By categories and types of vehicles, it was observed that in the seventh month of 2020, 15,209 new passenger cars were registered in Portugal, that is, 17.5% less than in the same month of the previous year. From January to July, passenger car registrations totaled 80,057 units, which translated into a negative variation of 45.6 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

Regarding the light goods vehicle market, in July 2020 there was an unfavorable evolution, having decreased 19.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, standing at 2,529 registered units. In cumulative terms, in the period from January to July 2020 the market reached 14,151 units, which represented a decrease of 36.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

With regard to the heavy vehicle market, which includes types of passengers and goods, in the seventh month of 2020 there was an increase of 67.3 percent in relation to the same month of the previous year, having been sold 363 vehicles in this category. From January to July 2020 enrollments totaled 1,894 units, which represented a 42.5 percent market drop compared to the same period in 2019.
