Cátia Azevedo wins 400 meters in meeting in Germany

Portugal's Sporting Cátia Azevedo won today the 400 meters of the athletics meeting in Dessau, Germany, with a time of 52.13 seconds, the best national brand of the year.

The 25-year-old Portuguese athlete was clearly the best on track, relegating Germany's Ruth Spelmeyer to second position (53.12) and Serbian Maya Ciric to third (53.20).

Cátia Azevedo, who is the national record holder (with 51.63), approached considerably the Doha Worlds access mark, which will be held in Qatar in late September and early October.

The Portuguese Athletics Federation has set a minimum access time of 51.80 seconds, which can still be reached in the next three months (until 6 September).
