The chairman of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), José Apolinário, considers that Água de Monchique is one of the “good examples” of the diversification of the economic base.
The director, accompanied by vice-presidents Elsa Cordeiro and José Pacheco, visited the company Sociedade da Água de Monchique on Thursday, meeting with the Mayor of Monchique, Rui André.
"These are good examples of the diversification of the economic base – including the renewed industrial unit of Água Monchique – relevant investments for the region, the results of which are visible," said José Apolinário.
The company has equipped itself with new filling lines, with state-of-the-art technologies and is betting on improving product quality and human resources, added the president of CCDR.
The CEO of the Sociedade da Água de Monchique, Víctor Hugo Gonçalves, revealed that, in the last year, the company created about two dozen new jobs, resulting from the expansion of its production capacity, half of which were young people recruited in the municipality.
“In addition, since 2020, we have substantially increased our annual production capacity, from 60 million to the current 150 million liters. We are investing in the brand, betting on new packaging, on new energy efficient technologies, on the foreign market and in new segments ”, he stressed.
The visit was part of the itinerary «#Algarve Faz Bem», with which the presidency of CCDR / Algarve intends to show the “good examples of interventions financed by European funds”, managed through the Algarve Operational Program.
