Choose not to schedule inductions of labor or elective cesareans prior to 39 weeks + 0 days - Up-to-date

At term, 39 weeks + 0 days is associated with increased neonatal morbidity, a greater need for health services during the first year of life, and an increased risk of learning difficulties (when compared to pregnancies with more than 39 weeks).

Induction of labor or elective cesarean section before reaching this gestational age should be avoided, except in the presence of maternal or fetal pathology to justify it. Maternal discomfort and anxiety related to normal pregnancy are not indications for termination of pregnancy before 39 weeks.
