The Metals and Percussion Group of the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, based at the São Carlos Theater in Lisbon, will go down south on December 15th, for a Christmas concert, at 7:30 pm. A trip not only for classical music, but also for more contemporary themes.
Led by maestro José Eduardo Gomes, recently awarded the first prize at the «European Union Conducting Competition», the Metals and Percussion Group of the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra promises an incursion to Loulé to “exuberantly announce Christmas”.
Metals and percussion want to celebrate the birth of the “son of a God!”, With the Three Cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, but also to mark a time that celebrates “men of good will”, selecting 3 of Edward's 14 Enigma Variations Elgar, respectively dedicated to Winifred Norbury, Augustus Jaeger and Arthur Troyte Griffith. The 1899 work attributes each variation to a friend of the composer.
Lounge music, sung by and among friends, also has a marked place, with Stephen Foster's “Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair”, a song that has been rooted for well over a century and a half in the memory of all Americans.
We continue with a diverse series of authors with relative or intensely performed compositions during the euphoric Christmas season: Hazell, Rogers, Tormé, going through very popular themes that we will hear in arrangements for the formation of Metals and Percussion, from “Gelobet sei der Herr mein Gott ”to“ Ding, Dong, Merrily On High ”, on a festive musical journey.
Seats are limited according to the distance measures imposed due to Covid-19, the use of a mask is mandatory, as well as respect for all the hygiene and safety rules of the DGS.
The Cineteatro is a cultural structure in the field of performing arts of the Municipality of Loulé, integrated in the Rede Azul – Theater Network of the Algarve and the Rede 5 Sentidos.
