In order to find the cast of the new co-production of Companhia João Garcia Miguel and Teatro das Figuras, «A Gaivota», an «open call» was launched for actors and actresses who reside or are natives of the Algarve region.
Whether they are professionals or amateurs, the actors can apply for the vacancy until February 20, through a completely online process, after which the selection, rehearsals and assembly of the show will be held in Faro.
The performance of the play will also pass through Lisbon, at the Teatro Ibérico.
«A Gaivota» is an original piece built from three axes: the work «A Gaivota», by Anton Tchekov; a true transgender story and a fictional biography.
It is intended to build a performative text that, through chaos and bodies, also crosses the notions of transsexuality, identity, humanity and reinvention, in opposition to the concept of extinction.
“With all the changes that have been felt in our sector, and that have caused actors and actresses to see their professional situation changed, it is now our priority to support national culture, but also regional talent. In this way, and together with the Teatro das Figuras, we want to get closer to the Algarve actors, taking their work and creation to new stages ”, explains, in a statement, João Garcia Miguel, artistic director and stage director.
Those interested who want to work in this paid production, should send their resume and a letter of intent to [email protected], describing their motivation and interest in the project.
After the application period, candidates will be selected for a «casting» that will take place at Teatro das Figuras, in Faro. From here, ten actors will leave for a five-day workshop, at a time and place to be defined, in which the final cast will be found.
The play will be presented in Faro and Lisbon, in the months of April and May, and the dates can be changed according to the pandemic evolution and the rules of the Directorate-General for Health.
Companhia João Garcia Miguel, founded in 2002, is a contemporary artistic creation company that researches artistic and creative development in performing arts, explored in theater.
