Companies forced to close during the new general containment will automatically have access to the simplified 'lay-off', said Prime Minister António Costa today.
The measure was announced by António Costa at the end of the Council of Ministers who approved the general confinement measures under the new state of emergency.
“All activities that are closed will have automatic access to the simplified‘ lay-off ’,” said the Prime Minister, specifying that the Programa Apoiar, both in the case of closed companies and in the cultural sector, will be extended.
The reinforcement of support measures will also cover the social sector, said the Prime Minister, stressing, however, that “it is not worth having illusions and thinking that confinement with a duty of generalized withdrawal does not have a very strong impact on economy ”because they“ have a very strong impact ”on the economy.
Details on strengthening support for companies will be presented Thursday by the Minister of Economy.
The President of the Republic today decreed the modification of the state of emergency in force, as of Thursday, and its renewal for another fifteen days, until January 30, to allow measures to contain the covid-19.
This is the ninth decree of the state of emergency in the current covid-19 pandemic context.
According to the Constitution, it is up to the head of state to decree a state of emergency, which allows the suspension of the exercise of some rights, freedoms and guarantees, but for that he must listen to the Government and have authorization from the Assembly of the Republic.
