The conference "The Algarve and the Economy of the Sea: Sustainability: A Look at the Future" will be held tomorrow and Saturday, 3 and 4, in Faro, within the scope of FARNAUTICA – Sea and Nautical Exhibition of Faro.
This is an initiative of Faro 1540 – Association of Defense and Promotion of the Environmental and Cultural Heritage of Faro, with the support of the Union of Parishes of Faro and Faro Municipal Council.
This event will be a space for reflection, dialogue and sharing on entrepreneurship and innovation in the field of the economy of the sea, from the perspective of policies and practices.
It will bring together the main players, companies and institutions that "contribute to the affirmation of the region in the context of the blue economy".
The initiative aims to contribute to "enhancing the opportunities that underlie it for the sustainable development of this territory".
Tomorrow, Friday, after the opening session, the first panel, which will cover the theme «Sea of the Algarve: Opportunities, Challenges and Threats», will start at 10:00 a.m.
The lectures "Management of the Marine Resource Space in the Algarve: Protection, Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biodiversity" (Jorge Gonçalves, from the UAlg Marine Science Center), "Cluster of the Economy of the Algarve Sea" (Luís Serra Coelho , UAlg), "The Economic Impact of Recreational Nautical Tourism in the Algarve" (Fernando Perna, coordinator of CiTUR-Algarve) and "Faro Nautical Station" (Carlos Baía, councilor of the Faro Chamber), followed by a roundtable on the «Algarve Sea: Opportunities, Challenges and Threats», with Luis Serra Coelho and the entrepreneurs Ricardo Badalo (Ria Formosa Rides) and Miguel Salazar (Riafresch).
In the afternoon, the second panel – "The Algarve Sea: from Tradition to Innovation" – includes the lectures "GreenCoLab – Collaborative Laboratory for Marine Biotechnology" (Luísa Barreira, Executive Committee of GreenCoLab), "Blue Hub: Services and Resources (Eurídice Cristo, project manager of the CRIA – Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Division of UAlg) and "Traditional Fishing – Present and Future" (Margarida Castro, CCMAR).
The roundtable on the theme of the second panel will feature Davide Alpestana (moderator) and entrepreneurs João Carvalho (Necton) and Manuel Sardinha (Sparos).
The conference ends on Saturday, 4, at 4:00 p.m., with the lecture «The Sea and Freedom of Portugal – A vision of the future», delivered by the Member of the Algarve, Cristóvão Norte (PSD).
