The secretary general of the PS canceled today a ruin in Nazaré and anticipated by one day the visit to the requalification works of Main Route 3 because he is considering to travel to the Azores on Wednesday as prime minister.

This change in Antonio Costa's Wednesday campaign plan was transmitted to Lusa agency by official socialist source.

By 17:00 today, the PS had scheduled a street action in Nazaré, municipality of Leiria district, then moving to the evening rally in Aveiro.

Faced with the possibility of a trip to the Azores on Wednesday, to accompany, as Prime Minister, the Civil Protection prevention work in relation to the passing of the “Lorenzo” Hurricane, António Costa decided to anticipate his visit to the rehabilitation works of the IP3, by road that connects the cities of Coimbra and Viseu.

On Monday, speaking to reporters in Cacilhas, Almada municipality, the socialist leader was concerned about the possible consequences of the hurricane "Lorenzo" passing through the Azores.

The maritime authority has already decided to close from 22:00 today the ports on the island of Faial, Sao Jorge, Pico, Corvo and Flores, due to forecasts of the state of the sea following the passage of Hurricane "Lorenzo".

The first effects of Hurricane “Lorenzo”, currently in Category 2, should start to be felt from tonight on in the Western and Central Azores groups, with strong wind, sea turmoil and rain.

According to an IPMA statement released this morning at 9am, Hurricane “Lorenzo” – Category 2 on the Saffir-Simpson scale (ranging from 1 to 5, with 5 being the most intense) – was “ about 1,000 kilometers southwest of the island of Flores, moving northeast at a speed of 35 kilometers per hour. ”

The IPMA adds that, "on track, the center of the hurricane is expected to pass Category 1 on Wednesday, slightly west of Flores, particularly affecting the Western group."
