Costa stresses that Government and PR coincide in wanting to celebrate part outside of Portugal - The Jornal Econômico

At the end of the 5th Portugal – Cape Verde summit in Lisbon, António Costa and the Cape Verdean prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, were asked about the choice of Cape Verde to host part of the celebrations of the Day of Portugal, Camões and Communities.

"Among the many coincidences of views that traditionally, the Government and the Presidency of the Republic have taken place, whether I in the campaign for legislative, or Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in the campaign for Belém, both terms defended that this day should be celebrated not only in Portuguese territory, but also in the Portuguese communities, "said Costa.

After Paris, Brazil and the United States hosted part of the celebrations last June 10, Cape Verde's choice came naturally: "We were missing the African continent," he said, adding that the choice was also due to the 18,000 Portuguese who reside in that country.

"We had a great welcome. It will be a very important moment to continue to maintain this tradition of celebrating in Portugal and with our communities, "he said.

Asked about the diploma delivered to him by the President of the Republic on family appointments, the prime minister considered that "it was not appropriate" to deal with this matter at the end of the Fifth Summit with Cape Verde.

For his part, Ulisses Correia e Silva said that the news that Cape Verde would receive part of the celebrations of June 10 was "very well received."

"Our relations are easy, of intimacy, of complicity," he said.

In addition to the Portuguese community resident in the country, Ulisses Correia e Silva said that next June 10 will be celebrated "the diaspora", noting that Cape Verde and Portugal have migrant communities in the same cities around the world.

It was on December 31 last year that the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, announced in Cape Verde that he would spend part of June 10, Portugal and Communities Day, in this country, where he will visit the cities of Praia and Mindelo.

Only later was it announced that the official celebrations will begin in Portalegre.
