Court confirms loss of mandate of president and councilor of Maia – Jornal Económico


The North Central Administrative Court (TCAN) confirmed the loss of mandate of the Mayor of Maia, António Silva Tiago, and a councilor elected by the same coalition, today brought to Lusa one of the lawyers of the process.

This decision confirms that issued in April by the Administrative and Tax Court (TAF) of Porto.

At issue is a lawsuit brought by the People for the People (JPP) party that criticizes the assumption by the municipality of a debt of 1.4 million euros, which the tax authorities charged the mayor, Silva Tiago, his predecessor and current president of the city. Municipal Assembly, Bragança Fernandes, as well as Councilman Mário Neves, as former administrators of the defunct municipal company TECMAIA.

The decision of the lower court does not cover the former mayor and current mayor of Maia, Bragança Fernandes.

In the action, the JPP also called for the dissolution of the city council and the municipal assembly, with the consequent convocation of interim municipal elections.
