In the American hosts was an officer figure, the young captain Russel who is attributed the introduction of a cola in Cuba. Russel, at the time and to celebrate Independence, would have added a dose of rum to the aforementioned soft drink and, with the operation, created the first cocktail Cuba Libre.
A fact contradicted by several sources that situate the entrance of cola in Cuba two years later, already in 1900.
Controversies of history aside, we are with Cuba Libre before a drink that even the amateur in these arts of the cocktail will have little room for mistakes.
To prepare your Cuba Libre just follow these simple instructions:
In a tall glass, pour 50 ml of light rum The 100 ml of cola (without citing marks, we naturally perceive what is being said). It is generous dose of ice cubes and a slice of lemon. In this case, whether inside or outside the glass, is optional.
If you want to accentuate the citrus fruit, one or two tablespoons of lemon juice.
Naturally there are variations to this basic recipe and, to taste, you can make your own experiences with different types of rum and different proportions of alcoholic beverage and soda.
