Brazilian footballer Alex Apolinário, from Alverca, died today, the Portuguese Championship club announced on social media, after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest on Sunday, in the game against União de Almeirim.
“With deep regret, we reported, according to the information provided by the medical staff of Vila Franca de Xira Hospital, the death of brain death of our athlete Alex Sandro dos Santos Apolinário, this morning. FC Alverca Futebol SAD will provide all the necessary support to their families, ”says the club.
Alverca adds that all club activities are canceled "at this time of mourning".
On Sunday, Alex Apolinário suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest during the game between Alverca and União de Almeirim, counting for the 10th round of Series F of the Portuguese Championship, which ended up being interrupted.
The Brazilian player fell inanimate, at the 27th minute of the game, while moving on the pitch of the Complexo Desportivo do Futebol Clube de Alverca, without being disputing any move.
Alerted to what happened by several players, referee Gonçalo Carreira, from Leiria, interrupted the match and the medical teams immediately entered the field.
Alex Apolinário was transported to the Vila Franca de Xira Hospital by the Alverca firefighters, who performed resuscitation maneuvers while on the lawn.
The 24-year-old arrived in Portuguese football in 2018/2019 to play for Alverca, after representing Cruzeiro and Atlético Paranaense in Brazil.
