Académica's judoka, at the service of the national judo team, Catarina Costa, today reached 5th place, at -48 kg, at the World Masters Doha 2021, a competition that will take place in Qatar until Wednesday.
After winning the first match, the Conimbricense lost the final of pool A to the Kosovar, Distria Krasniqui – who would later win the gold medal -, by Waza-ari (suffered two penalties). Relegated to the rematch for the bronze medal, Catarina Costa defeated the Spanish Julia Figueroa, but, in the decisive duel for the medal, ended up losing against the Ukrainian Daria Bilodid (world champion in 2018 and 2019 and European in 2017 and 2019), by ippon.
Catarina Costa, currently 8th in the world ranking and qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games (played between July 23 and August 8, 2021 in Tokyo), thus adds important points to the ranking, since the race in Qatar gathers the first 36 classified for each weight.
