O Rally of Portugal, fifth test of World WRC, was postponed due to the Covid-19announced the Automobile Club de Portugal (ACP), organizer of the competition that would start in Coimbra and pass through the various sections of the region, in the municipalities of Arganil, Góis, Blackboard and Mortágua.
“The race was scheduled to take place in the North and Center regions of the country, between 21 and 24 May. After the entry into force of the state of emergency in Portugal, and with the unanimous agreement of the national authorities, the FIA [Federação Internacional do Automóvel] and the promoter, the Automóvel Club de Portugal requested the postponement of the WRC Vodafone Rally de Portugal ”, can be read communiqué of the ACP.
ACP President Carlos Barbosa thanked all of the “sponsors and partners for their understanding” and said he hopes to “count on everyone at a later date this year”, without revealing an alternative. “We are all working to identify possible alternative dates at the end of the season, should the situation at Covid-19 improve, taking into account the championship's logistics, the ability of the teams to travel again and the ability of the respective countries to organize the WRC at that time. ”Said Oliver Ciesla, director of the WRC's promoter.
The Argentine Rally, which was to take place from April 23 to 26, was canceled, while the race in Mexico, won by Frenchman Sébastien Ogier (Toyota Yaris), was shortened one day. The FIA also announced the postponement of the Sardinia Rally, in Italy, the sixth race of the initial World Cup calendar, which was scheduled for June 4-6.
