Filipe Albuquerque took third place on the podium at Road Atlanta, where the fifth round of the North American Endurance Championship (IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship) took place.
The Portuguese driver and his teammates Felipe Nasr and Pipo Derani had a difficult race, they rode at the tail of the pack but managed, at the end of the six hour race, to cross the finish line in third place.
Leaving the second position on the grid, Filipe Albuquerque's team was penalized for a less happy overtaking, which forced a 'drive through' when they were in charge of the race.
The penalty put the Cadillac # 31 trio in last place.
Everything seemed completely ruined, but “an odd pace, a good strategy and casualties of the race put the Whelen Engineering Racing drivers in third place”.
Near the end, the entry of the 'Safety-Car' allowed for a mind-boggling last minute of running but unfortunately it was not possible to recover more seats.
Filipe Albuquerque returns to Europe to prepare the longest race of the year, Le Mans 24h on 19 September.
