The 2020/21 edition of I turns on in soccer will start on the weekend of September 20, the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP), in a note published on its official website.
The championship will start almost two months after the end of the 2019/20 season, in a period of less than usual stoppage, and also later, due to the reformulation of the previous season, due to the covid-19 pandemic.
The draw for the I Liga will take place on August 28, just like the draw for the II League, which kicks off on September 13, as the LPFP had advanced on Monday.
The start dates of the I and II Leagues still need “ratification by the Direction of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF)”, as explained by the LPFP.
In the season that ended, the I Liga ran until the first weekend in March, after which it was suspended due to the existing health crisis with the new coronavirus pandemic, and was resumed in early June, but without the presence of a public .
In 2019/20, FC Porto won the championship, which ended on July 26, and the Portuguese Cup, played on August 1, while Benfica won the Super Cup, and Sporting de Braga won the League Cup.
