The Cidade de Coimbra Stadium has been, in the 2020/2021 season, a real “fortress” for Académica. In 10 rounds of the 2nd League played in his stronghold, the team led by Rui Borges won seven games, added two draws and recorded only one defeat.
Looking at the 2nd League record, only one team scored more points playing at home than Briosa. Vizela won, in 11 games, 26 points out of 33 possible. The only defeat of the vizelenses was precisely against Académica, 3-1, in the 7th round. At their stadium, Álvaro Pacheco's team triumphed in eight matches, registered two draws and suffered a loss.
Académica, which has only played 10 games as a visiting team, is the second team with the most points at home. There are 23 points, out of 30 possible.
The only defeat in Lusa-Atenas happened on matchday 4 (1-0), against Feirense, a team that beat Santa Maria da Feira to Briosa on the last match, again 1-0, in a defeat that relegated to the 3rd place for students (42 points).
Despite the descent to 3rd place (which at the end of the season will give a playoff duel that can be worth the climb to the 1st League, against the 16th classified in the 1st League 2020/2021), Académica is only two points from leader Estoril and one from Feirense, 2nd place.
After traveling to the fire place, Briosa returns to the “comfort of home” next Monday. As of 17H00, Varzim, 17th and penultimate classified – 15 points in 21 rounds – plays at Estádio Cidade de Coimbra.
