The League of Clubs today opened the doors to the introduction of the video referee (VAR) in the II Portuguese Football League, although the management of the arbitration sector falls to the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).
The executive director of the Portuguese Professional Football League, Helena Pires, was one of the speakers at the conference "VAR Future Challenges", organized today by Sporting, and highlighted "the importance of the I League being one of the pioneers" in the introduction of VAR to launch the idea of extending technology to the secondary level.
“Liga NOS was one of the pioneers in the introduction of video arbitration, hoping that one day we will also be able to have this tool in the II League”, said the executive director of the organization that manages Portuguese professional football.
The official also highlighted that the alignment of the League with the FPF leadership “has been total throughout this process” and that the organization makes a “continuous effort to provide the best conditions for the implementation of the VAR”, reinforcing that it is up to the FPF to management of the arbitration sector.
“For the League, what matters is the sports tool. Any improvements that can be brought to the protocol are welcome ”, he concluded.
The “VAR Future Challenges” conference, organized by Sporting, took place today on a digital platform and also counted on the interventions of several former international football and rugby referees.
