Varzim striker Stanley Awurum, who has been hospitalized in the past few days for respiratory problems associated with covid-19, was discharged today, said the poveiro club, which is active in the Portuguese II football league.
The 30-year-old Nigerian player has been hospitalized at Pedro Hispano Hospital in Matosinhos since the weekend, where he was transferred after receiving initial assistance at the Póvoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde Hospital Center.
According to the northern club, Stanley is now "well and asymptomatic" and will finish his recovery at home, with plans to return to training next week.
“Varzim informs that player Stanley Awurum, who was hospitalized due to covid-19, is well and asymptomatic, being discharged from hospital this Thursday. A recovery period will start, with the team expected to resume work on Tuesday, November 24, ”explained the club, in a statement.
The Póvoa de Varzim emblem thanked “all the expressions of affection and solidarity with the player” and left a “word of recognition to all the medical staff of the hospital entities, for the professionalism and attention shown from the first hour”.
Stanley was one of 11 members of Varzim's main squad, including coach Miguel Leal, who last week were affected by an outbreak of covid-19, which forced the suspension of sporting activity for seven days.
The working group has almost completely returned to work, and is preparing for Monday's game ahead
to Académica, from the third round of the Portuguese Cup.
